Australia Becomes First Western Country To Ban Visitors From Ebola-Hit Areas In Africa

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison
Australia has prompted world wide outrage by becoming the first Western country to ban visitors from Ebola-hit areas of Africa, amid warnings the restrictions could make it harder to fight the deadly disease.
In a dramatic move announced on Tuesday, the government said it would refuse entry to anyone travelling from Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leona - the countries most severely hit by the epidemic - despite there being no known cases of the virus in Australia.
Liberia's president urged Australia to reconsider its decision, while UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned travel restrictions could seriously hamper efforts to beat Ebola.
The unprecedented moves comes amid calls from Republicans for a travel ban to be imposed in the U.S - something which has so far been resisted by Barack Obama.
Announcing the decision, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told Parliament the government's processes were 'working to protect Australians'.
Under the strict regime, Australia will not issue new visas and will cancel temporary ones. Those with permanent Australian visas yet to arrive in the country will only be allowed to fly after a 21-day quarantine before their departure.

Mr Morrison also announced the government would be suspending its humanitarian programme in the affected countries.
Ebola has killed almost half of more than 10,000 people who have been diagnosed with the disease. The World Health Organisation has warned the actual death toll is a lot higher.
After the annoucement, Liberia's President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf urged Australia to reconsider its travel ban.
She said: 'Anytime there's stigmatisation, there's quarantine, there's exclusion of people, many of whom are just normal, then those of us who are fighting this epidemic, when we face that, we get very sad.'
Earlier this week, North Korea announced it was closing its borders to international tourists because of concerns about Ebola.

Zambian President Michael Sata Dead At 77

Zambia's President Michael Sata (L) reviews a guard of honour outside the National Assembly building on September 19, 2014 in Lusaka (AFP Photo/)
Zambian President Michael Sata, 77, has died in London where he was receiving medical treatment, local media reported Wednesday.
There was no immediate confirmation from Zambian officials in the capital Lusaka.
The independent Zambia Reports quoted "multiple sources" among Sata's delegation as confirming that he had died, while the Zambian Watchdog website said it had "100 percent confirmation" of the president's death.
Sata has long been rumoured to be seriously ill and has not been seen in public since returning from the UN General Assembly last month, where he failed to make a scheduled speech.
He flew to London a week ago for treatment.

Sata made a rare public appearance on September 19 to tell parliament: "I am not dead."

When he left Zambia for London, Sata appointed Minister of Defence and Justice Edgar Lungu as acting president.

Vice President Guy Scott has regularly stood in for the president at official events in recent months, but he is of Scottish descent which could make him ineligible to take over the presidency as his parents were not born in Zambia.

Supporters who voted Sata into office in 2011 saw him as a no-nonsense man of action, while for critics, the former policeman, trade unionist and taxidermist was an authoritarian populist.

What is undisputed is that he seemed to revel in scorched earth politics.

Detractors, political foes, the media and even allies frequently came under attack from a man who earned the sobriquet "King Cobra".

He had recently cracked down on political opponents and critical journalists who reported on his long-suspected illness and frequent "working trips" abroad, apparently for medical treatment.

In January 2014, an opposition politician was charged with defamation for calling him a potato, while in June the authorities charged three opposition activists for claiming that he was dying.

Resign Now! PDP Tells Speaker Tambuwal Over Defection To APC

Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
Speaker Aminu Tambuwal
The Peoples Democratic Party- PDP, has urged the speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, to resign following his official defection to the opposition party All Progressives Congress, APC, on Tuesday.
The PDP said its National Working Committee has met with its leaders in the House of Representatives concerning the defection of the speaker, and after due considerations think it best for him to resign.

“After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority,” a statement by the party’s publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, said.
“We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon. Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed.”
Prior to the the announcement of his defection today, the speaker had for many months denied associating with the APC for fear of loosing his position.

AGAIN? FIFA Gives Nigeria Fresh Deadline For Ban From International Football

FIFA has extended until Friday the deadline given to the Nigeria Football Federation to set its house in order or face a lengthy ban from international football. the world's football governing body's latest position was made known via a letter sent to the NFF President Amaju Pinnick on Tuesday.
Read the letter signed by FIFA General Secretary Jerome Valckeafter the cut:

“Dear President we acknowledge your correspondence dated October 27, 2014 with regards of the developments in the situation of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“We take note of the order granted by the Federal High Court nullifying the NFF elections of 30 September 2014 and the fact that some persons claiming to have been legitimately elected previously went to occupy the offices of the NFF causing great confusion among the administrative staff…
“As stated in our previous letters dated 9 September 2014 and 2 October 2014, FIFA stressed that should the electoral process and instalment of the newly elected board be affected by any interference, the case would be brought to the attention of the appropriate FIFA bodies for a suspension of the NFF
“Under these circumstances and in order to give Nigeria a last opportunity to avoid a lengthy suspension, we inform you that if by Friday, 31 October 2014 at midday Nigerian time we have not received proof, we would refer the case to the FIFA Emergency Committee for implementation of the suspension.”

The letter marked the fifth warning Nigeria has received since July 2014. And just before the FIFA letter was received, the Minister of Sports Dr. Tammy Danagogo held separate meetings with Pinnick and his board members and the Chris Giwa group in a bid to find lasting peace.
The meeting could not however yield any immediate result.

Danagogo said afterwards,
“I am calling on Nigerians to prevail on the factions in the NFF crisis to come to a round table and discuss the way forward. I have met with them and have told them to make peace by making sacrifices. They should withdraw the case they have in court as that is the only way we can avoid the threats of FIFA ban. I cannot stop people from going to court nor can I stop the court from hearing cases brought before it. What we advise is for matters of this nature to be taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) which is the right body to hear such cases so that we avoid the threats of FIFA ban all the time.”

Tiny wrote on her instagram page:
“I permanently changed my eye color with Brightocular and loving it! Thank you Dr. Montasser Menif for the amazing experience and for making my dream come true. I hated wearing contacts just for the color and it made my vision blurry. Blessed to say my vision is perfect after my ice-gray implants.
Special thanks to #Spencer Vessa for all that you’ve done to make the process happen. You’re amazing and thank you #faiza for your exceptional customer service.”

This is the position of my colleague. :

My position about plastic surgery has always been very flexible, as I try not to judge because for many people, it borders on improving/regaining their self esteem.
But this eyeball inplant thing for me is a NO-NO, even though I have nothing against colored, fashion contact lenses. This for me is too dangerous. What if something goes wrong during surgery? What if after some time complications develop? Has this been tested for a long period of time? Is there anyone who has had this 'permanent eyecolour change over over 10 years and can testify to no complications? What if....what if...I have so many questions.
However, this is just me thinking out loud because I'm still very amazed at how daring people have become and how far cosmetic surgery has gone. At this point I'm throwing the question at you guys: if given the chance, will you be daring enough to change the color of your eyeballs? What are your thoughts on these very daring 'permanent' surgery? Can some medical experts please shed more light on what the possible impact of this may be and complications that could come?

*** well, while my colleague asks for better understanding of the whole package, I ask THAT YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT COLOUR YOU'VE CHOSEN FOR YOURSELF *** LOL***

South African National Football Captain Shot Dead By Armed Men While Trying To Protect Popstar Girlfriend

Meyiwa had played for the Orlando Pirates his whole life and had recently been called up to the national side
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and South Africa soccer captain Senzo Meyiwa was  yesterday Sunday shot dead by intruders while trying to protect his girlfriend during a robbery at her home near Johannesburg, officials said on Monday.
The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana goalkeeper died on Sunday after suffering a single shot through the chest at the home of girlfriend Kelly Khumalo, a local actress and popstar, in the township of Vosloorus.

Provincial Community Safety official Sizakele Nkosi-Malubane told reporters at the scene:

"Two guys entered the house and demanded cellphones, money and other valuables. Senzo tried to protect Kelly because one of the men had a gun pointed towards her."
Police said two men entered Khumalo's house about 8 p.m. local time (1800 GMT) where Meyiwa was in a party of seven in the house. A third assailant waited outside the house and all three fled immediately after the shooting.

Meyiwa was declared dead on arrival at hospital, the police added.

National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega announced a special task force team had been formed to investigate the murder. She will brief reporters later on today.

FORENSIC INVESTIGATION
In a statement on Monday, South African president Jacob Zuma said:

"We mourn the death of this young footballer and team leader whose life has been taken away at the prime of his career."

"The law enforcement authorities must leave no stone unturned in finding his killers and bring them to justice. Words cannot express the nation's shock at this loss."
Police cordoned off the street leading to house on Monday morning as a forensic team conducted its investigation, keeping interested locals and reporters from the scene.

Meyiwa captained South Africa in their last four matches in the African Nations Cup qualifiers without conceding a goal and played on Saturday when his club advanced to the semi-finals of the South African League Cup.

Meyiwa's death has further highlighted South Africa's rampant gun violence less than a week after Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius was given a five-year jail sentence for culpable homicide after shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

More than 17,000 people were murdered in South Africa between April 2013 and March 2014, an increase of about 800 over the previous year, according to police figures.

"We Are Coming For Our End Of The Year Package And Nobody Stop Us!"-Robbers Write Residents In Lagos

The letter, Onimaba area
In what is fast becoming a trend by daredevil robbers in the country, residents of Onimaba, College Bus stop, Ikotun Road, Igando, have received a letter informing them of an impending visit from the men of the underworld.
Since receiving the letter circulated around streets in the area last week Thursday, the residents have been living in fear.
According to Punch, the letter which was typed on an A4 paper and scattered on the streets, was noticed by residents as they woke up on Thursday morning.
About 20 copies of the letter were said to have been picked up from streets such as Lateef Bello, Ogunbewon, Taiwo Adediran, and Alhaji Hamzat.
Our correspondent learnt that the people called the attention of landlords to the document, and the landlords association was said to have reported at the Igando Police Division.

In a copy of the letter obtained by reporters, the robbers wrote that residents should be prepared to ‘entertain’ them as they were coming for their end-of-the-year packages. The robbers added that they could strike the area at any time they deemed fit.

The letter reads,
“Be prepared, be prepared, be prepared. Our dues must be paid this festive season. Nobody can stop us as we can strike at any time. Only enough money can save your life.
“To be forewarned is to be fore-harmed. We have warned you in this area, and if you have ears, you ought to hear.”

Although the residents insist they have reported the matter to the Police, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, denied knowledge of the said letter. He added that the public should always avail the police of relevant information to enable them ensure security of lives and property.

He said,
“The incident has not been reported to the Igando Police Division. However, if the residents have received such letter, let them bring it to the police. If there is such information, we will do well to ensure we deploy enough personnel in the area. The responsibility of the police is to ensure safety of lives and property in the state.”

President Jonathan Finally Declares He Is Running For Presidency In The 2015 Elections

President Goodluck Jonathan today 27 October has openly declared that he will be contesting in the 2015 presidential electios.
Reports say he made the move in Aso Rock, the seat of the presidency, by telling top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he is set for the 2015 presidential race.
He also announced a presidential declaration committee, headed by former Minister of Defence Haliru Bello, to prepare for his formal declaration, which will take place in two weeks.

t will be recalled that the PDP adopted Mr. Jonathan as its candidate, sidestepping the procedure of primaries that it feared would split the party and weaken Mr. Jonathan in the real contest next February.

Boko Haram Abducts 30 Adolescent Boys And Girls In New Attack In Borno

Around 30 adolescents -- some of them girls aged as young as 11 -- have been abducted in northeast Nigeria over the weekend by suspected Boko Haram rebels, a local village chief told reporters on Sunday.
"The insurgents... grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region," said Alhaji Shettima Maina, who is in charge of the Mafa village around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.
"They took all boys aged 13 and over... and all girls aged 11 and more. According to our information, 30 young people were abducted in the last two days."

Another village elder, Mallam Ashiekh Mustapha, confirmed the account.
Both men said 17 people were also killed in recent days in a Boko Haram attack on the nearby village of Ndongo.
Boko Haram, which has been waging a bloody insurgency since 2009, has been responsible for waves of attacks and abductions.

Some estimates put the number of women held by the group in the high hundreds. Most are believed to be forced into marriages with rebels.
The latest kidnapping comes despite the Nigerian government declaring a truce with the insurgents and the army retaking control of Abadam in the north-east on Saturday, according to a senior security official in the region.

But local chief Maina said his village and areas around it were targeted in nearly daily raids by Boko Haram, and many residents have fled to Maiduguri "for fear of being killed or losing their children".
He said he had pleaded for help from the Nigerian government but that so far none had been forthcoming.
Earlier this month the government and army had announced an accord with Boko Haram, whose insurgency has left more than 10,000 dead over the past five years. But on the ground in north Nigeria the truce has not taken hold as attacks have continued.

The reported retaking of Abadam, near lake Chad, from Boko Haram fighters could not be immediately confirmed by the Nigerian army and witnesses could not be reached as most of the inhabitants fled to neighbouring Niger when the Islamists had taken over the village.

Shocking: 'Earth-size' UFO Spotted Orbiting The Sun In NASA Images-Report

UFO that rivals Earth in size spotted near the sun in NASA photos
In what may be described as one of the most bizarre Unidentified Flying Object-UFO in recent times, an 'object' as big as the size of the earth has been spotted orbiting the sun.
Scott Warring, who blogs atufosightsdaily.com posted images of the UFO sighted on October 25 and suggested that what he observed from NASA photos was evidence of a UFO that rivals the size of Earth.
Reportedly, it's not the first time the unidentified flying object was seen orbiting the sun. Apparently, astronomers and officials in Russia warned about spotting UFOs of this size in the Solar System back in 2009.
An excerpt from Scott Warrings post sheds more light:
"I check out the SOHO photos every day, and was fortunate enough to catch this massive ship as it was exiting or entering the sun. This UFO is solid as you can see. It is as large as Earth itself. Look closely at the surface of it. There are no flames or heat changes. Its color does not change on its surface...unlike the sun itself which has many mixing colors. Russian scientists alerted the world over 5 years ago to the UFOs that flew around the sun in orbits that suddenly make hard right angles and changes in speed. This is one of them."

2014 has been dubbed 'the year of the UFO'S' as there has been more sightings reported this year from all over the world than any other. More websites and blogs are cropping up and supplying “evidence” that proves extraterrestrial life exists beyond this planet, perhaps, even beyond this galaxy.

Granted, some reports of unexplained flying crafts are military and amateur drones, while others are simply UFO hoaxes. However, as time goes on and advances in imagining technology increase, footage is becoming clearer. Gone are the days of grainy images that are merely tricks on the eye. That has been replaced super-speed high-definition cameras.

NASA has not commented on the Earth-sized UFO seen in the latest digital images

Ebola Policy in NewYork and NewJersey

New Quarantine policy ordered in NY, NJ

New York (CNN) - A mandatory 21-day quarantine imposed by New York and New Jersey on health care workers returning from West Africa after treating Ebola patients caught local and federal officials by surprise and spurred a heated debate on handling the spread of the virus.
The policy of isolating medical personnel and others arriving from Ebola-affected countries zones was abruptly implemented Friday by the governors of New York and New Jersey, Andrew Cuomo and Chris Christie. The announcement came one day after a New York doctor who treated patients in Guinea became the first Ebola case diagnosed in the city and the fourth in the United States.
The mandate came as a surprise to the federal Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention in Atlanta, according to a federal official familiar with the situation.

Baby Born Clutching Quran In Ibadan (photo)

A renowned Islamic preacher based in Ibadan, Oyo State, Dr Dawood Amoo, has described the birth of a baby boy clutching a pocket-size Qur’an as one of the signs of Allah. Tribune reports.
In an interview with journalists in Ibadan, Amoo said although the development was not strange, the boy named Ismail was unique as the said mini Qur’an contained all the 114 chapters in the holy book.
The preacher testified that he was one of the earliest callers at the Owode/Academy, Ibadan residence of the parents of the baby to witness one of God’s wonders.
He said the mother, Jelilah, gave birth in a church at Oniyanrin area of the city, where the baby was seen clutching a strange object in his left hand.

“The woman, who took the delivery, thought it was one of the devilish drugs used by the mother to terminate the pregnancy, hence she threw it in the dustbin,” he explained.
Amoo said that the said object, which later turned out to be a pocket-size Qur’an, was wrapped in a thread.
He said that with the forceful removal of the object from its hand, the baby became restless and continued to clutch an empty fist.
“Following his restlessness, a local cleric advised them to go and bring what they took from the baby which later turned out to be a copy of the mini Qur’an.”

Bamako, Mali (CNN) - The first confirmed Ebola patient in Mali has died, according to state TV reports, citing government health officials.
The victim, a 2-year-old girl, had traveled to the country with her grandmother from Guinea -- one of the three countries hardest hit during the recent Ebola outbreak.
Earlier on Friday, the World Health Organization said that the girl had multiple opportunities to expose others to the virus.

  • The girl first went to a clinic Tuesday after entering the country, WHO Assistant Director-General Marie-Paule Kieny said at a news conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WHO said it was working to confirm media reports that the child's mother showed Ebola-like symptoms before her death.
The girl was diagnosed with Ebola in Mali on Thursday.
Health Ministry spokeswoman Markatie Daou said the dozens of people who had contact with the girl have not shown any symptom related to the virus, as of Friday.
More than 40 people are still being monitored, she said.
They include 10 medical workers who came into contact with the girl in the city of Kayes, west of the Mali capital of Bamako, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said. Kayes has a population of about 128,000 people.
He cited local authorities as saying 43 people were being monitored in total. The incubation period for Ebola is two to 21 days, so the country faces a long wait to know if it's in the clear
