Following been rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing during a throat surgery on Thursday, veteran comedienne Joan Rivers is now on life support, TMZ has revealed.
In fact, sources close to the legendary comedian say she is completely reliant on machines to stay alive.
According to the sources, the family will have to decide in the next couple of days whether to keep the 81-year-old on life support. The family however remains hopeful that if they do decide to turn off the machines, she will make a turn for the better and fight through it.
The E! Fashion Police lead host, and comedienne was her witty self less than 12 hours before she stopped breathing.  She was her usual irrepressible self, making jokes about her own longevity and mortality to an audience of around 100- her last public appearance.
Her daughter Melissa, 46, released a statement yesterday, thanking everyone for their messages of support and gave a brief update on her mother's condition.
She said:
'My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world.
'Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery.'

Star: Joan Rivers (pictured here in 2012 at the New York Fashion Week) has been a fixture of American life for more than 50 years and she is celebrated for her acerbic wit
Her Fashion Police co-hosts have also taken to twitter to express their grief and pray for her recovery.
Juliana Rancic wrote:
'Praying for @Joan_Rivers and @MelRivers,' Mrs Rancic wrote Saturday morning. 'Even though Joan's the
the strongest woman I know, every single prayer counts. I love you, Joan.'
A seemingly heartsick Kelly Osbourne called the 81-year-old co-presenter her ‘grandma’ and added the hashtag 'inconsolable.’ She wrote:
'4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight! I encourage U 2 do the same.'
Charly Sheen, Donald Trump are also among other celebrities who have prayed for the energetic entertainment mogul.
Joan has had a career spanning over 60 years, making people laugh with her witty, acerbic sense of humor.

SHOCKING! Australian Hostage Negotiator Dennis Stephen Says Boko Haram Is Funded Through CBN

An Australian hostage negotiator Dennis Stephen, is alleging that Boko haram is being funded by the CBN, The Cable has revealed in an exclusive report.
A large chunk of the finances of Boko Haramm is said to be passing through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Australian, said to have close links to the militant group said.
Dr Stephen Davis, who was in Nigeria for four months trying to negotiate with Boko Haram to release the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, said Boko Haram commanders told him a senior CBN official, who cannot be named( for legal reasons), was fully involved in the funding of the insurgency.
Davis, said that Western countries could not trace the majority of the source of funding to Boko Haram because “it is done through a legal channel, through the gatekeeper, the CBN, and that makes it very easy to cover up”.
He added that Boko Haram commanders told him a senior CBN official, who currently works in the bank’s currency operations division, was the one handling the transactions.

“One of the biggest of suppliers of arms and military uniforms to the JAS (Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, better known as Boko Haram) currently lives in Cairo, Egypt. He is the recipient of money sent by political sponsors from Nigeria. The funds go through the CBN’s financial system and appear to be a legal transaction. “Meanwhile, the CBN official who handles the funding is an uncle to three of those arrested in connection with the Nyanya bombings. The three boys lived with him. They were arrested by the SSS (Department of State Security) after the bombings but they do not seem to have been interrogated about their uncle in CBN. Or if they have given up information about their uncle then the SSS has not moved against him.” “Also, a senior official of CBN, who recently left the bank, was very close to Sodiq Aminu Ogwuche, the mastermind of the Nyanya bombings who also schooled in Sudan. Boko haram commanders said Ogwuche’s wife used to visit this top official in his office at the headquarters of the bank in Abuja before the Nyanya bombings. They were very close,” Davis said.
The former Canon Emeritus at Coventry Cathedral, UK, said he decided to come out to speak now because the Nigerian authorities were not acting fast and he was heart-broken by the evils being done to the kidnapped Chibok girls and the many other girls and boys being kidnapped.
“I have three daughters. I just cannot stand the thought of what those girls are passing through. I have spoken to an escapee who described how she was being raped for 40 days by militants. I can’t stand it. It is heart-breaking. Nigerian authorities must act decisively now,” he said, revealing that he spent “days and weeks” with commanders of Boko Haram in the north-east during his time in Nigeria. Davis, 63, holds a PhD in political geography from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Below are excerpts from the exclusive interview:

Can you share with us your experience with Boko Haram leaders?
Davis: Let me take you back a bit. I specialise in negotiation. It may interest you to know that I have been involved in peace negotiations in Nigeria since 2004 when President Olusegun Obasanjo invited me to intervene in the Niger Delta crisis. With a local Nigerian colleague, I spoke with Asari Dokubo and took him to Obasanjo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Because Asari is a Muslim, the Muslim boys in the north heard about me and warmed up to me. I did a report in 2005 on the threat of extremism among young northern Muslims. Obasanjo’s security chiefs dismissed the report with a wave of the hand. They said no such thing existed. In 2007, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who desired to end the militancy in the Niger Delta, invited me and made me presidential envoy. I toured all the northern states. I went to the country’s borders. I came back with a report that there were some budding sects in the north. The national security adviser (NSA) at the time, Gen. Sarki Mukhtar, dismissed the report. He said they didn’t exist. A succession of NSAs dismissed all these reports and allowed the groups to flourish. By the time President Goodluck Jonathan came to power in 2011, these groups had spread all over the north. They had cells and commanders in 16 out of the 19 northern states. President Jonathan called me and sought my opinion on the best way to tackle the militancy and bring it to an end. I knew many of the leaders. I spoke with them. They trusted me. They initially wanted to kill me. They thought I was an American but I told them I was not. They also thought I was British but I said I was not. I told them I was an Australian. They relaxed. I don’t know why but they became more accommodating. They became friendly and, gradually, we built the trust. They started feeling free with me. I don’t call them Boko Haram. I call them JAS. People call them Boko Haram. They don’t call themselves Boko Haram.

What deal were you seeking under Jonathan’s mandate?
Davis: The president wanted peace. He asked me to discuss with them so that we could arrive at the terms of peace. They came up with some terms that were acceptable and others that were not acceptable.

What were those terms?
Davis: They wanted training for the widows of their deceased fighters. They asked the government to give these women cottage training. They, ironically, wanted education for the children of their deceased members. That is why I don’t call them Boko Haram (“Western education is a taboo”). They asked that the children be sent to school. They also wanted the government to rebuild villages that were destroyed by the security agencies. They asked for amnesty as well.

What terms were unacceptable?
Davis: The president said he would not grant amnesty in the sense that they meant it. He said those who surrendered their arms would not be prosecuted, but those who continued to commit more crimes would face the law and would be charged with treason. They also wanted women and children who were being held in custody to be released. Their leaders that I spoke with were ready to accept the conditions. But the NSA then, Gen. Owoye Azazi, went vehemently against it. He said there should be no negotiation with terrorists. He completely turned the military against the peace deal I was working on, even though we were very close to bringing an end to the insurgency the same way we did it in the Niger Delta. The military then refused to back the deal. They succeeded in convincing the president not to accept it. I could understand where they were coming from: the security budget was like $6 billion and any peace deal would seriously reduce their budget.

How did you become involved in the negotiation for the release of the Chibok schoolgirls?
Davis: Because I had built trust among the militants, I made calls to them when I heard about the abductions. They confirmed to me that the girls were with them. I came to Nigeria in late April (the girls were abducted on April 14). I told the president I would try to intervene and help get the girls out. He said he would give me the needed support if I wanted. However, what I discovered was that thrice we tried to get the girls released, and thrice my efforts were sabotaged. That was when I now realised that some politicians were also involved in the insurgency. There were the remnants of those involved in the former peace deal as well as a political arm and what I call the ritual arm which specialises in butchering human beings. While I was making efforts to get the girls released, the political backers of the group threatened that if I got 30 or 40 girls out, the militants would kidnap another 60 to replace them. I became very frustrated. They threatened that any commander of the group who agreed to participate in any dialogue would be slaughtered by other commanders. The political sponsors are very powerful because they supply the finances and the arms. Until they are cut off from the group, those girls will not be released. We are talking about 200 Chibok schoolgirls, but there are over 300 other girls that have been kidnapped. There are many young men that they also kidnapped and turned them against their families. They asked them to go and slaughter their family members and they are doing it. Nobody is talking about those ones. They are the new child soldiers.

How can we get these girls released?
Davis: The first thing is to stop the bagman who supplies weapons and military uniforms. We know his name, location and associates. If the man is stopped, the slaughterers, the ritual arm of the group, would be demobilised. The girls can be released afterwards. This man controls these ritualists.

Was there really any deal to release the girls?
Davis: Yes, there was. Some commanders of the group told me that they would first release 100 of the girls and that would be the first step towards dialogue. They needed a guarantee from President Jonathan that they would not be arrested or prosecuted if they showed up for dialogue. They agreed with me that if they did that and no one was arrested, then they would return to the camps to release the rest of the girls. TheCable: In all your discussions, did they name their sponsors? Davis: They named the man who lives in Cairo. He is of the Kanuri tribe. He passes arms, ammunition and uniforms to them. The CBN official who handles the funding (name withheld by TheCable for legal reasons) is an uncle to three of those arrested in connection with the Nyanya bombings. The three boys lived with him. They were arrested by the SSS (Department of State Security) after the bombings but they are yet to be interrogated about their uncle. The official still works with the CBN. He is still there. He works in currency operations. He knows how to handle the transaction in a way that it can never be traced. Western countries are frustrated that they cannot trace the funding. How can they when it is passed on legally, through the gatekeeper, through the CBN? Also, a senior official of CBN, who recently left the bank, was very close to Sodiq Aminu Ogwuche, the mastermind of the Nyanya bombings who also schooled in Sudan. Ogwuche’s wife used to visit this official in his office at the headquarters in Abuja before the bombings. They were very close. Don’t forget that the CBN official who handles the transactions also used to report to his superior, the official who recently left the bank. Also, there is a politician who was supplying operational vehicles for the suicide bombers. He gave them Hilux vans. He is a prominent politician. If the president goes after these guys, they will say it is political. That is part of the problem. Everybody will say the president is going after his political opponents, especially as there is a general election next year. The militants also named the former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff. In 2003 and 2007, Sheriff was very close to them. He used them for his elections. They worked for him. However, in 2007, the leader of the group, Muhammed Yusuf, collected money from Sheriff in return for support. Yusuf’s mentor, Ja’afar Mahmud Adam, exposed and criticised him for collecting money from Sheriff, and Yusuf ordered his killing in April 2007. But eventually, Yusuf and Sheriff fell out. However, it is acknowledged that Sheriff was and is a major financier of the group. He pays for young men to go for lesser hajj. From there they are recruited into the group. They interact freely with the Al-Shabbab militants from Somalia. They are trained by Al-Shabbab. Some of them go to Mali for training. These guys are in touch with the ISIS (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, which now simply calls itself Islamic State and controls parts of Iraq). They are deadly. They share the same philosophy. The militant commanders I spoke with also named a former army chief as one of their sponsors. You have senior military officers who are benefiting from the insurgency because of the security budget. It pays them to keep the insurgency going so that they can continue to make money. I asked them several times who the army chief was and they told me it is… (name withheld by for legal reasons).

Ebola: FG Shifts Primary And Secondary Schools Resumption To October 13

To ensure effective monitoring of the spread of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) the Federal Government has directed that all public and private primary and secondary schools in the country must remain closed until October 13th, 2014.
This,  it said,  is to ensure  that adequate preventive measures are put in place before the pupils return to school.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, met with the States Commissioners for Education Forum in Abuja Tuesday to discuss how to handle the matter which continues to cause a lot of apprehension in the country.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Health's Director of Ports Health Service, Dr. Sani Gwarzo briefed the meeting on steps to be taken to prevent the spread among school children.

He urged the Ministry and the Forum of Education Commissioners to urgently come up with a policy document on EVD for schools, and back it up with a work plan, adequate funding, and collaboration with other stakeholders on the EVD such as the Ministries of Health and Environment.

Gwarzo cited Ghana which has already commenced training of school teachers and staff of both public and private schools on preventing the spread of the EVD.

Boko Haram: 480 Nigerian Soldiers Flee To Cameroon

NO fewer than 480 Nigerian soldiers have fled into Cameroon following fierce fighting with Boko Haram insurgents.
The Cameroonian Army Spokesman, Lt Col Didier Badjek, who confirmed this, said the troops had already been disarmed.
But   the Director of Defence Information, Maj. -Gen Chris Olukolade, said the   soldiers merely strayed into Cameroon and therefore were not “deserters.”
Badjek told the British Broadcasting Corporation on Monday that the disarmed Nigerian soldiers   were   being accommodated in schools in Maroua, about 80 kilometres   from the Nigerian border.
It is gathered that Boko Haram insurgents had at about 5.15am on Monday invaded Gamboru, forcing both civilians and soldiers to flee   to Cameroon.
One of the residents who called from Cameroon, said the insurgents went straight to attack the military base and police station in the town.
He said an initial attack was repelled by the military which killed many of the insurgents.
The resident added that about two hours later, the insurgents regrouped and   launched a fresh attack on the troops.
He said. “They engaged the military and caused them to retreat into Cameroon. It was most likely that the Nigerian soldiers ran out ammunition.
“But some soldiers   later   emerged with their Cameroonian counterparts and continued the battle with the insurgents.
“As I am speaking to you now (4pm on Monday), we are still hearing sound of gunshot miles away, meaning they are still engaging themselves.”
But in Abuja,   Olukolade told one of our correspondents  that the 480 soldiers strayed into Cameroon   while  in pursuit of the insurgents.

He said the soldiers were on their way back to the country and would soon be reunited with their units in the North-East.
The army spokesman stated further that it was the standard practice for soldiers who strayed into a foreign but friendly country to be disarmed.
He explained that the soldiers were not expected to react because there was no hostility involved in the issue.
Olukolade also denied the claim by the insurgents that they had taken control of   Gamboru Ngala, stressing that security operatives were still confronting them in the town.
He said, “In the pursuit of the insurgents, some of our soldiers strayed into Cameroun. The military authorities are in touch with the Cameroonian authorities and the soldiers are on their way back and would soon be united with their units in the country.

GOOD NEWS: "Nigeria Has Contained Ebola"-Health Minister Reveals

Minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu

Nigeria now has only one confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), Minister of Health Onyebuchi Chukwu said today, as he asserted that the country has brought the disease under control.
Two treated patients, a male doctor and a female nurse, were discharged on Monday evening, having satisfied the criteria for discharge, he said in a press statement signed by his spokesman, Dan Nwomeh.
Dr. Chukwu described the lone confirmed case as a secondary contact of Mr. Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American who brought the disease into Nigeria, and a spouse of one of the physicians who participated in the management of the index case.

“She is stable but still on treatment at the Isolation ward in Lagos,” the statement said.

Noting that today is the 38th day since EVD entered Nigeria through Mr. Sawyer, the Minister restated that there have so far been 13 cases of EVD, including the index case.

“Of these thirteen (13), five (5), including the index case unfortunately did not survive the disease and are now late.  However, seven (7) of the infected persons were successfully managed at the Isolation ward in Lagos and have been discharged home.”

He observed that all the reported cases of the EVD in Nigeria have their root in Mr. Sawyer the index case, an indication that, thus far, Nigeria has contained the disease outbreak.

“I wish to reassure Nigerians and indeed the global community that the Government shall remain vigilant and will not relent as Government continues to work with her partners to ensure that the disease is kept out of the country,” Dr Chukwu said

Enugu Chicken Impeachment: Deputy Governor Removed By House Of Assembly

Impeached Governor Sunday Onyebuchi
The Enugu State House of Assembly has removed the state’s Deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, from office this morning.
Mr Onyeabuchi was removed for operating a commercial poultry at his official residence and of disobeying Governor  Chime, charges that, under the law, do not qualify as impeachment offences.
In fact,  the deputy governor’s removal is believed to have been masterminded by Governor Sullivan Chime, who interestingly was accused by his impeached deputy of operating a piggery at the Government House.

The impeached deputy governor told the impeachment panel set up by the state’s chief judge last Wednesday that Mr. Chime also operated a piggery at the Government House.
Giving evidence before the panel , Mr. Onyebuchi said the governor’s poultry was hurriedly evacuated shortly after the panel commenced sitting.
Mr. Onyebuchi revealed that the state government had budgeted for the maintenance of the poultry since 2011.
The embattled deputy governor, who tendered the state’s budget between 2011 and 2014, said funds had always been provided for the poultry he operated.
He insisted that he did not commit any offence that  should have warranted  his impeachment and that the poultry farms he and the governor operated were there before they assumed office in 2007.

EBOLA: Customs Intercepts, Destroys Truckload Of Monkey Meat In Katsina

Despite the nationwide sensitization that Nigerians should desist from eating bush meat because of the dreaded Ebola-EVD, some stubborn traders were last week caught smuggling what is suspected to be monkey meat, seen pictured above.
The truck-load of suspected monkey meat smuggled into the country by a yet to be identified smuggler was destroyed yesterday by operatives of Kaduna and Katsina command of the Nigerian Custom Service.
According to Customs Comptroller of Federal Operations Unit (FOU, Zone B), Maina Tijjani Suleiman, the truck was intercepted Thursday morning at the Katsina border.

Suleiman also said the truck contained 351 bags of bush meat and that each of the bags weighed 100Kg, stressing that the seized meat may have come from Libya.
He explained that the seizure was necessary in view of the current challenge of the dreaded Ebola disease, noting that had the meat made its way to Nigerian markets, “only God will tell the extent of damage it may cause.”
“The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away after he was chased by our men. But then, some hoodlums attempted to attack our men and it took the reinforcement of operatives before the truck was retrieved,”he added.
He warned importers of similar products to desist from doing such or face the full wrath of the law, assuring that the customs would not shirk from its responsibility of supporting the ongoing fight against Ebola

Football Fans Optimistic As Nigeria Takes On Germany On Sunday In FIFA Women's U-20 Finals

the_falconets
Some Abuja football enthusiasts on Friday expressed confidence in the ability of the national under-20 women team to win the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria will take on Germany in the competition’s final match, after overcoming North Korea 6-2 in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Germany had defeated France 2-1 to book a date with the Falconets.

The football enthusiasts told NAN that they were optimistic the Falconets would triumph over their German opponents in view of the Nigerian side’s performance so far.

A referee, Aminu Saliu, said the physical play of the Germans would not stop the Falconets from defeating them.

“Since the Falconets reached the final without tasting defeat, I believe they can go all the way to win the cup if they are not intimidated by Germany.

“They should continue with the same spirit they started with. The only weak link is the goalkeeper. I think that she needs as much help as she can get from the defenders,’’ he said.

Niyi Ajayi, an engineer, said the Falconets have been playing well since the beginning of the competition, and that this would serve them in good stead on Sunday.

“The good thing is that the goalscoring chances they create and their good ball possession are indications that they are always in control of their games.

“But they need to be more clinical in front of goal on Sunday. I am sure the technical crew has seen the lapses and will work on them before they face Germany,’’ he said.

Adegboye Richard, a civil servant, said the Falconets have done a good job so far in making Nigeria proud in the process, and would not disappoint when it mattered.

“I did not expect them to reach the final. It was their second time of reaching this stage and we need to encourage them to do more.

“I believe Nigeria are destined to win this competition. Even though the German team is resilient, the players can’t stand the Falconets,” Richard said.

NAN reports that the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup started on Aug. 5 and will end on Aug 24.(NAN)

Who has been following the FIFA under 20 world cup? Do you think Falconets have a strong chance against Germany?

FG Pays Accumulated Allowance Owed To Over 330 Nigeria Students On Scholarship In Russia

Students on FG scholarship begging for food in Russia
Following the publication of a report by Punch few days ago, exposing the failure of the Federal Government to pay the 8 months allowance of Nigeria students on scholarship in Russia, the Federal Government has now paid the allowances owed.
The over 322 Nigerian students are on the Bilateral Educational Agreement scholarship in Russia.
Following the report, reporters gathered on Thursday that the students had since started getting credit alerts on their respective bank accounts.
The power of the press can never be overemphasized!

One of the affected students, Moyosore Ojuri, who is in her second year studying Metallurgical Engineering at the Volgograd State Technical University, Russia, told our correspondent on the telephone that the sum of $4,450 had been paid into her bank account.

The money, she explained, included $4,000 meant for her stipends from January to August; $200 for annual medicals and health insurance, and $250 covering her annual protective clothing.

Ojuri said she hoped that the Federal Government would begin paying them their allowances as at when due and save them from undue hardships.

“Before now, the Federal Government owed us from January to August. But now they have paid us everything. I can pay my accumulated debts and I am sure that I won’t be sent packing from the hostel over unpaid accommodation fees,” she said.

One of the student leaders, Akinola Akindamola, a post-graduate student of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Volgograd State Technical University, Russia, stated that he and other student leaders were going round to ensure that all of them, especially the new students, had received their allowances.

Akindamola, who is the President of the Senate Committee of Association of Nigerian Scholarship Students in Russia, said, “The payment of the money is in process and I am confident that by the end of today, we would all have been paid. The least problem we want now is to be financially handicapped. We appreciate the Federal Government for their prompt response.”

When contacted, the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, Mr. Olu Lipede, confirmed that the Federal Government had paid the students all their entitlements.

Baquba: Cycle of Violence
Attacked by ISIS
About a week after capturing Mosul, ISIS militants took control of several neighborhoods here but were pushed back by security forces. The next day, the bodies of 44 Sunni prisoners were found in a government-controlled police station in Baquba, about 40 miles north of Baghdad. Baquba, and the surrounding province of Diyala, is a volatile mix of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds, and was the scene of some of the worst sectarian violence in past years.
